ADVANCED META TAG GENERATOR

This form will generate HTML Meta Tags suitable for inclusion in your HTML document. These tags allow better indexing by robot-driven search engines, such as AltaVista and searchBC. Some HTML editors will generate some of these tags automatically.
You can also use the Rating META generator at SafeSurf to generate a PICS header - a multi-valued, multidimensional ratings scheme for classifying Web pages for use with kid's Web software or PICS-compliant browsers such as MSIE.
To generate PICS META tags for adult content see the ICRA or SafeSurf generators.

** = Recommended    |     = Tool Tip
Title ( Strongly Recommended )
Your documents title will appear in user's hotlists, the banner of most browsers, and robot-generated lists. It should be a concise, one-line summary of what the page is about. Bear in mind that users may not reach your document through your homepage, but directly using a search engine or link at another site, so the title should ideally be self-sufficient. Title: **
= Title of the document. It should be a concise, one-line summary of what the page is about.
The author META tag defines the name of the author of the document being read. Author: **
= This META tag defines the name of the author of the document being read.
Keywords, phrases, or classification codes describing the content. Subject:
= Keywords, phrases, or classification codes describing the content.
Description ( Recommended )
A short, plain language description of the document used by search engines to describe your document and is presented to the user along with the document's title as the result of a search. Particularly important if your document has very little text, is a frameset, or has extensive scripts at the top.
Many robots use the first few lines of text as a description if the Description tag is not present. For documents using frames, it is possible that there is no such text present. For an academic text, this should probably be the abstract. Description: **
= To be displayed in search engines and is presented to the user along with the title as the result of a search.
Keywords ( Recommended )
This is the list of key words for indexing your document.
Some robots look at keywords in context, so it is best to preserve word order and case, e.g. scripts, webmaster resources rather than resources, etc. Separate each word with a comma. Keywords: **
= META tag used to help define the primary keywords of a Web page. Separate each word with a comma.
 Language ( Optional )
Typically the name and version number of a publishing tool used to create the page. Could be used by tool vendors to assess market penetration. Language:
= Search engines index web pages based on language to determine which languages are supported.
Expiry Date ( Optional )
The date and time after which the document should be considered expired. Controls cacheing in HTTP/1.0. Dates must be given in RFC850 format, for example: Thu, 04 Oct 2010 14:21:20 GMT.
In Netscape Navigator, a request for a document whose expires time has passed will generate a new network request, ( possibly with If-Modified-Since ).
An illegal Expires date, e.g.  Expires:
= The date when the listing may be deleted. If you do not put in this tag, it defaults to never expires.
This tag is a one line sentence which gives an overview of the entire webpage. Abstract: **
= This tag is a one line sentence which gives an overview of the entire webpage
Typically an unqualified copyright statement. There is no need to add ©, it will be added automatically. Copyright:
= Copyright: There is no need to add © symbol, it will be added automatically.
This tag is used for pointing out the designer of the web page. The designer tag is not used by any of the big search engines. Designer:
= This tag is used for pointing out the designer of the web page. It is not used by any big search engines.
Publisher: The company that publishes material being read or sold on a web site. Very similar to the meta generator tag. Publisher:
= Publisher: Company that publishes material being read or sold on a web site.
The Revisit META tag defines how often a search engine or spider should come to your website for re-indexing. Use this tag only if you plan to update your content on a regular basis. Note: Just ad number(s) because the word Days will be added automatically. For example: 2 Days, 3 Days, 4 Days, etc. Revisit-After:
= Defines how often a search engine re-indexes a website. Use number(s) only!
Distribution: Global, ( indicates that your webpage is intended for
mass distribution to everyone ). Local, ( intended for local distribution of your document ), and IU - Internal Use, ( not intended for public distribution ). Distribution:
= Global: Mass distribution. • Local: Local distribution.
• IU ( Internal Use ): Not for public distribution.
Pragma and Cache Control, are specifically designed to prevent ( or control ) caching in most browsers. It tells your browser if it should look for a fresh copy of a page each visit. Cache:
= Designed to prevent, ( or control ), caching so a browser will look for a fresh copy of a page each visit. .
Use the Rating META Tag to rate the content of your pages for your visitors. Since parents use filtering software, this software may block access to  Rating:
= You can specify the appropriateness of your web site for kids.
Robots ( Recommended )
Controls Web robots on a per-page basis. E.g. META NAME=ROBOTS CONTENT=NOINDEX,FOLLOW. Robots may traverse this page but not index it.
Altavista supports:
NOINDEX prevents anything on the page from being indexed.
NOFOLLOW prevents the crawler from following the links on the page and indexing the linked pages.
NOIMAGEINDEX prevents the images on the page from being indexed but the text on the page can still be indexed.
NOIMAGECLICK prevents the use of links directly to the images, instead there will only be a link to the page.
Google supports a NOARCHIVE extension to this scheme to request the Google search engine from caching pages. Robots: **
= Instructs the search engine robot/spider how to index your site.
The  Charset:
= Identifies a character encoding for converting a sequence of bytes into a sequence of characters. ISO-8859-1 is standard..

= ( VW96 Schema ) - Category information for search engines or directory indexers.
